A yearling Clydesdale filly was crowned show champion of champions at the Grantown Show yesterday.
Put forward by Muir of Ord breeders Eric and Miranda Johnstone, Ord Tinkerbell is a home-bred daughter of Eskechraggan Ernest and out of Ord Envy.
Prior to her Grantown success, she was champion of champions at Sutherland, native champion at Nairn and Perth and breed champion at Keith.
She was selected for the top title by Guy MacPherson Grant from Ballindalloch Estate. He was tasked with choosing between the beef, sheep, Clydesdale and supreme horse champions.
In the cattle lines, the interbreed championship went to a Beef Shorthorn for the first time in the show’s history.
Judge John Elliot, who runs the Rawburn Aberdeen-Angus herd at Roxburgh Mains, Kelso, said his champion was a “really functional cow” and just what the industry was looking for at this moment in time. He was referring to seven-year-old cow Lowther Sally from Andrew Anderson of Smallburn Farms, Plelwands, Duffus.
Bought as a two-year-old from Charles Lowther in Penrith, she is by Blelack Minstrel and out of Lowther Sally 1.
She was shown with her April-born bull calf Smallburn Lorn, and previously stood reserve interbreed at Turriff and reserve champion at Black Isle
The reserve beef interbreed champion was three-year-old Charolais bull Kilbline Instigator from John and Raymond Irvine at Inverlochy, Tomintoul.
Supreme in the sheep section was the leader from the Blackface section.
This was a home-bred three-crop ewe from Glenrinnes Farms Ltd, Glenrinnes Estate, Dufftown.
The reserve sheep interbreed champion was the champion from the any other breed section – a Bluefaced Leicester gimmer from Raymond Baynes at Blackford Farm, Croy.
The supreme horse champion was seven-year-old Pure Irish Draught gelding Ballarin The Conqueror from Karen Mowat, Teanahuig, Munlochy.
