A new book has been launched to help raise funds for rural charity RSABI.
The book – Farming Facts and Fake News – has been put together by agricultural journalist Andrew Arbuckle and his brother John. It follows the success of their previous Farming is a Funny Business book in 2015.
Launched by Countryfile presenter Adam Henson, the book is available to buy for £10 with all funds raised destined for RSABI.
“There has never been a book of lists about farming and this aims to fill that gap. It covers the whole range of activities down on the farm and it stretches back into a previous era as well as recording what is happening today,” said Andrew Arbuckle.
“Reflecting modern life, some of the lists could be considered fake news but, unlike politicians who often mix up facts and fiction, we have every confidence in the reader recognising any strangers to the truth.”
He said as well as containing essential information on all aspects of Scottish rural life, the book contains many totally irrelevant, but entertaining, facts about farming, farmers and those in who live in the countryside.
“Where else would you find such a range of knowledge from the most influential people in the industry sitting alongside alternative uses for welly boots?” added Andrew.
“The serious issue of farm succession is dealt with but then so are the most evocative smells of the farmyard, and yes, silage is mentioned alongside pig manure.
“With more than 120 lists to enjoy, there is something for everyone with little pieces of history sitting alongside futuristic predictions. If you are looking for details on the biggest turnip or the heaviest yield of grain, this book is not for you. We have included many lists that may provoke an argument but few that will settle a dispute.”
