Limousin bulls sold to a top of 70,000gn at the breed’s autumn show and sale at Carlisle.
Auctioneers Harrison and Hetherington sold 113 bulls to an average of £7,018.27 – up £914.10 on last year for 20 more sold.
The sale topper was the reserve intermediate champion, April-2016 born Ampertaine Magnum from James McKay, Maghera, Co Derry. Earlier in the year, Mr McKay achieved the top price of 100,000gn at the breed society’s May sale when he sold Ampertaine Mozart.
Magnum, which is by Loosebeare Fantastic and out of Amptertaine Fancypants, sold to Ian Handley for his Gunnerfleet herd at Chapel Le Dale, Ingleton, Lancashire.
Other leading prices at the sale included 20,000gn for 16-month-old Ballinloan Mountain from Dunkeld-based breeder Stuart Fotheringham. By Ampertaine Foreman and out of Ballinloan Gaga, he stood reserve overall beef breeder champion at the Highland and reserve interbreed at Perth Show.
He sold to Albert Howie for his Knock herd at West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead, with Mr Fotheringham retaining a share. Mr Howie had a successful day selling bulls, achieving top prices of 7,500gn and 7,000gn.
Selling at 7,500gn was April-2016 born Knock Black Massie, by Goldies Goldfinger, and selling at 7,000gn was April-2016 born Knock Maximum, by Foxhillfarm Justthejob.
Another at 20,000gn was June-2016 born Grahams Michael from the Graham family at Airthrey Kerse Dairy Farm, Bridge of Allan. By Ampertaine Elgin and out of Milbrook Gingerspice, he sold jointly to the Haltcliffe and Loosebeare herds.
Other leading prices included: 12,000gn for May-2016 born Garnedd Max selling to R. and J. Johnston, Hewan, Shapinsay, Orkney; 8,500gn for April-2016 born Loosebeare Mason selling to the Cameron family at Strone Farm, Banavie, Fort William; 7,200gn for 15-month-old Creran Mastercard selling to Craig Malone, Pitcairn Farm, Fife; and 7,000gn for April-2016 born Whinfellpark Maxwell selling to Mark Meldrum, Shenval Farms, Ballindalloch.
