Breeders from the north of Scotland were cream of the crop at the Simmental show at yesterday’s Stirling Bull Sales.
Judge Anne MacPherson, of Blackford Farm, near Croy, Inverness, awarded her supreme champion rosette to the leader from the senior section.
This was March-2016 born Islavale Hugo from the Stronach family at Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith. He is by Islavale Echo 2 and out of Islavale Emblem.
Standing reserve supreme champion was the reserve senior champion – Auchorachan Hunter from the Durno family at Auchorachan, Glenlivet, Ballindalloch. He is by Auchorachan Elgin and out of Auchorachan Diamond.
In the intermediate championship, top honours went to Camus Harold from Harold Stubbs and Andrew Burleigh of 48 Innisrooisk Road, Crummy, Ballindarragh. This July-2016 born entry is an AI son of Kilbride Farm Newry, out of Camus Easter.
The reserve intermediate champion was June-2016 born Pitmudie Houston from Heather Duff of Pitmudie Farm, Brechin. He is by Overhill House Eragon, out of Manor Park Babe.
In the junior section, the champion rosettes went to September-2016 born Corskie Harry from the Green family at Corskie Farm, Garmouth, Fochabers. He is by the 22,000gn Dirnanean Bradley and out of Corskie Blossom 10th.
The reserve junior rosettes went to another entry from the Stronach family’s Islavale herd. This was September-2016 born Islavale Heston, by Ranfurly Confederate, out of Islavale Fran.
Lastly, the female champion went to in-calf heifer Westridge Baron Louise 4 from Mr and Mrs M Ward and Sons, West Mains Farm, Newbigging, Carnwath. She is by Grangewood Baron and out of Westridge Legend Louise 2. The reserve female champion was yearling heifer Newbiemains I’m Brilliant from Jim and Patricia Goldie, Newbie Mains Farm, Annan. She is by Newbiemains Empire and out of Newbiemains Blinking Brilliant GP.
Meanwhile, in the Salers section both the supreme and reserve champion titles went to the top entries in the senior section. The judge – Alisdair Davidson of Poldean, Newton Wamphray, Moffat – awarded his overall champion rosettes to Kaimburn Lewis, by Seawell Highlander, from Edgerston Trading, 1 Overton Bush Cottages, Camptown, Jedburth. Reserve was Preenbank Lord Charles, by Seawell Invader, from Shropshire breeder Fred Robinson.
