‘Open Farm Sunday events changing views on agriculture’
ByNancy Nicolson
Open Farm Sunday (OFS) events are changing views on agriculture and influencing consumers to buy British food, a survey has found.
Nearly 90% of visitors to the open days in 2018 said the experience changed the way they think about agriculture and 92% said it gave them a greater appreciation of the work farmers do .
Almost 2,000 farmers have hosted events and welcomed more than 2.2 million visitors onto their farms since OFS started 13 years ago. This includes 107 farmers in Scotland and more than 119,000 visitors onto their farms.
The theme for Open Farm Sunday 2019 is “get closer to farming”. It will focus on the people involved – the farming families and the teams of technical experts across the UK involved in producing food.
