Pedigree bulls peaked at 9,500gn at the annual multi-breed show and sale held alongside the Royal Northern Spring Show at Thainstone yesterday.
The sale met a 69% clearance as the 49 bulls cashed in at £4,312.50.
Topping the trade was the Charolais and overall champion Bonnykelly Nominator from Graham and Mark Leggat, Mormond Prop, New Pitsligo. This June 2017-born son of Gretnahouse Ivory sold to J and W Kellas, Raws, Dufftown.
The Leggats received 6,800gn for a similar-age son of Gretnahouse Ivory, Bonnykelly Nimrod. He sold to FJ Keir, Newton of Carnavero, Alford.
Albert and George Howie of the Knock herd at West Knock, Stuartfield, Peterhead, sold two bulls for 8,000gn and 6,500gn.
Dearest when sold to the Mackie family at Whiteside, Tullynessle, Alford, was the Limousin champion, Knock Nelson – a 22-month-old son of the 21,000gn Goldies Goldfinger.
At 6,500gn was their reserve Limousin champion, an April 2017-born bull by the same sire – Knock Nickleback. He sold to A Mackay and Son, Strath Farm, Watten.
Simmental bulls reached 6,000gn for Tillyeve Invincible from the Bruce family at Tillyeve, Udny, Ellon. This 23-month-old son of Woodhall Ellison, sold to George Wilson, Turtory, Bridge of Marnoch, Huntly.
Another at 6,000gn was Aberdeen-Angus champion Orbliston Jacobite, by Ballindalloch Master Peter, from AM Shepherd, Orbliston, Fochabers. He sold to M Langlands, Dalbhraddan Farm, Alyth.
Two bulls sold with a 5,500gn tag including the second prize Limousin bull from Michael Robertson and family, Easter Fodderletter, Tomintoul.
Selling to John and Jean Henderson, Udale, Poyntzfield, Dingwall, was Fodderletter Nimrod, an August 2017-born bull by Spittalton Gold which was shown successfully in the summer.
Matching that price was the Stronach family’s Simmental champion, Islavale Ivan – a 24-month-old bull by Islavale Frontier. He sold to R and J Francis, Scotston, Insch.
