ByGemma Mackenzie
North-east breeder Jimmy Douglas was top of the flocks at the Carlisle and Northern Counties Society show and sale of Suffolks.
The veteran breeder, who runs the Cairness flock at Woodhead of Cairness, Fraserburgh, achieved the highest price at the sale of 10,000gn for the reserve male champion.
This late December-2018 born lamb is an embryo transfer son of Millhouse Remarkable, which is by the 10,000gn Middlemuir Maseratti, out of a home-bred dam.
The lamb’s embryo brother has been kept for breeding, and his granddam is an embryo transfer sister to the 17,000gn Cairness The Geezer. The sale topper sold jointly to Messrs Holmes, Middle Hill, Worcestershire, and Messrs Samuel, St Weonards, Hereford.
Next best at 4,500gn, selling to Messrs Irwin & Son, Nympton, Umberleigh, Devon, was the overall and male champion. This was a January-born Strathbogie-bred ram lamb, by Strathbogie A Kind of Magic.
