Farmers will be given employment advice at a series of events later this month.
The events, organised by SAC Consulting as part of the Scottish Government’s Farm Advisory Service, will cover a range of topics including employment status, tax and national insurance.
“Taking on outside labour in the farm business is becoming an increasingly complex situation, particularly for those using ‘self-employed contractors’ who are, retrospectively, deemed to have been employees by HMRC,” said Mhairi Dalgleish from SAC Consulting.
“This roadshow will assist with how to tell the difference between self-employed contractors and employees to avoid farmers being hit with bills for tax and national insurance.”
The planned events include: January 28 at the Pentland Hotel, Thurso, 7pm; January 29 at the Golf View Hotel and Spa, Nairn, 12.30pm; and January 30 at West Balmakewan Coach House, Laurencekirk, 7pm.
