Profits were up by more than a third at one of Scotland’s biggest soft fruit companies last year.
The latest accounts for Angus Soft Fruits, which is based at East Seaton Farm near Arbroath, show a 37% increase in pre-tax profits to £1.327 million for the year to April 30 2019.
The accounts also reveal a 12% boost in sales to £179.48m, from £159.58m the year before.
The bulk of sales were within the UK, while overseas sales increased by 163% to £6.946m, from £2.639m previously.
In his report accompanying the accounts, finance director Neil Redford said: “The management continue to develop and maintain good relationships with suppliers and customers.
“Angus Soft Fruits Limited continues to invest heavily in new product development to create new varieties of soft fruit to secure competitive advantage in the market place.”
The accounts also reveal that the highest-paid unnamed director at the company, which employed 207 staff last year, took home a pay cheque of £192,148 – up from £140,000 previously.
