Tractor sales continued to lag at the start of the year, according to data from the Agricultural Engineers’ Association (AEA).
Figures reveal 477 new tractors, over 50 horsepower, were registered last month – 31.1% fewer than in January 2019 and the slowest start to the year since 2001.
Stephen Howarth of the AEA said: “The wet autumn is likely to have contributed to a reduction in orders, which would be reflected in the latest figures.
“It remains to be seen whether the improvement in the weather more recently and the arrival of Basic Payment Scheme cheques in December will make any difference to the trend.”
