Arable supplier and grain buyer, Frontier Agriculture, says it is confident it can continue to offer a full service to its farming customers during the Covid-19 crisis.
The company’s chairman, Jose Nobre, made the comments in the firm’s latest accounts.
“We anticipate that the UK arable supply chain will continue to operate without significant interruption, despite the measures being implemented by the UK Government to limit the impact of Covid-19,” said Mr Nobre.
He said the UK arable supply chain was well established with approximately 90% of all arable crops grown destined for food and drink for UK consumers.
“Modern agricultural practices are no longer heavily dependent on people because technology has been embraced in recent years as part of the drive towards more efficient production,” added Mr Nobre.
The chairman said the company had set up a Covid-19 response group and he was confident any adverse impact on cash flow as a result of the virus could be absorbed within the group’s current banking facilities.
The company accounts, which cover the year to June 30 2019, reveal a boost in turnover and profits.
The firm, which operates 40 sites across the UK including Crimond, Invergordon, Newmachar, Perth and Turriff, posted an 11% increase in turnover to £1.653 billion.
The accounts, filed with Companies House, also reveal an 11% increase in pre-tax profits to £31.45m, from £28.44m before.
