The Covid-19 crisis has been blamed for a 42% decline in tractor sales last month.
Figures from the Agricultural Engineers Association (AEA) reveal 586 tractors over 50 horsepower were registered in the UK in May – down 41.9% on May 2019.
The total number of tractors registered in the first five months of the year was 4,263 – down 26.5% on 2019 and the lowest total for this point in the year since 2001.
AEA economist Stephen Howarth said the impact of Covid-19 and the temporary closure of manufacturing plants across Europe were a major factor in the drop in sales, however challenging weather would also have impacted orders.
