Government unveils recovery plans for agri, food and drink exports

The UK Government has unveiled a “bounce back plan” to help the agriculture, food and drink industries recover from the coronavirus crisis.
The plan, which will be delivered in conjunction with businesses and the devolved administrations, aims to support businesses in the industry grow their trade activity overseas.
It includes: a programme of “ready to trade” exporting seminars; the appointment of an agri-food counsellor to support exports to the Gulf; and expansion of Defra’s Food is GREAT promotional campaign into the United Arab Emirates and Europe later this year.
“This package of measures signifies our strong commitment to support the sector in recovering from the impact of coronavirus,” said Defra under secretary of state, Victoria Prentis.
“It includes the promotion and showcasing of British expertise and produce to new export markets, identifying opportunities and strengthening existing relationships.”
Food and Drink Federation chief executive Ian Wright said food and drink exports would be vital in aiding the UK’s post-Covid recovery.
