An Aberdeenshire farming family has launched a pick-your-own tatties patch.
Laurencekirk farmer Fiona Smith, who runs Westerton Farmers with parents David and Sheila Gammie, says the patch was created to reconnect people with their food.
It is located alongside the family’s successful self-service farm shop – the Spud Hut – at Cairnton Farm.
“We have Charlotte and Premiere ready at the pick-your-own plot, planted nice and early to give our customers at the Spud Hut new season tatties before the main crop is ready,” Mrs Smith said.
“By giving the public access to pick their own, we are letting them see how their food is grown and the care that goes into harvesting it.”
She said people visiting the patch must bring their own bags and tools to harvest the potatoes, as the farm is not providing any equipment due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Once you have picked the amount of tatties you want, you can weigh and pay in the Spud Hut,” added Mrs Smith.
“We really hope families have a lot of fun picking their own tatties and enjoy being on the farm.”
