Chance for budding artists to shine in game and wildlife contest

Young artists are invited to take part in the Game and Wildlife Conservation Trust’s (GWCT) school art competition.

The contest, sponsored by a number of Deeside estates, is open to school pupils in the Marr, Kincardine and Mearns, and Garioch areas of Aberdeenshire.

Pupils are asked to create a piece of art illustrating a game or wildlife species from the British Isles in its natural habitat, and an additional prize will be awarded for the best 50-word description of the artwork.

The overall winning primary and secondary artists will receive a prize of a drawing workshop with local artist Mel Shand. The primary winner will also receive an educational day out to a local farm for their whole class, in partnership with the Royal Northern Countryside Initiative.

“The competition helps to engage young people with the valuable conservation work in which the trust is involved and encourages youngsters to enjoy the countryside, inspiring long-term interest in game, wildlife and their habitats,” said Iona Laing from GWCT.

She said information packs had been sent to schools in the area.
