Six young farmers clubs battled it out at a series of competitions at the 2014 Highland Rally last weekend.
The clubs from the region competed for top honours across four sections – industrial, practical, stockjudging and sports – at the event at the Black Isle show field in Muir of Ord.
Inver Ross took home both the Nan Howie Silver Salver for baking and the Press and Journal Rosebowl for best overall industrial entries.
The stockjudging competition saw 24 teams compete across six classes including a novelty class with alpacas.
The first place title went to the Nairn B team, made up of Paul Wilson, Gus Forbes and Lynne Macarthur.
Taking second place was the Inver Ross A team comprising Bruce Callum, Amanda Sinclair and Ricky Marwick. Â Third place went to Halkirk B, which was made up of James Anderson, Fiona Sinclair and Duncan Macmillan.
The best individual score in stockjudging went to Francis Cuthill from Inver Ross, with the second place title awarded jointly to Susan Shearer from Forss and Fiona Sinclair from Halkirk.
Practical competitions included a sheep shearing contest – the first in many years at the Rally – with Douglas Webster from Bower crowned shearing champion. Â Michael Gunn from Forss took second place, with Ricky Marwick from Inver Ross in third.
Other practical competitions included a tough halter making section, reversing a dolly trailer, fault finding and setting up a sheep handling system.
The Inver Ross club gained the highest number of points in the practical section.
Clubs competed in a variety of different sports classes from wool bag racing to football, with the Bower team crowned overall champions.
The Inver Ross team took home the Hamilton trophy for most points scored across all sections at the rally.
Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs regional events manager for the north Fiona Gibson said: Â “A great day was had by all and thanks must go to all the stewards and judges who made the day possible.”
