A new flail mower from Maschio claims to be ideal for all crop stubbles.
The Gemella, which is being showcased at next week’s Cereals Event by Opico, is Maschio’s widest and most robust flail mower.
Maschio says the kit is a “heavy duty hydraulic-folding model”, ideal for a wide range of situations from cutting grass to shredding branches and twigs.
The manufacturer expects it to be particularly popular for mulching maize stubbles to reduce the spread of fungal diseases, such as fusarium and eyespot, into following crops.
The Gemella is available with working widths of 4.65 metres and 6.20 metres; it folds down to a width of 2.4 metres and features hydraulic safety locks to ensure easy and safe transport.
Maschio says the model, which comes with hammer flails as standard, is suitable for tractors of 120-260hp.
It will cut materials up to 12cm in diameter, or for thicker branches, fish tail flails can be fitted.
According to Maschio, the Gemella’s floating head system gives three degrees of upward movement on each wing, ensuring cutting height remains even on undulating ground.
It added: “A central deflector minimises the uncut area between the two flail units, and a lower counter blade mulches the discharged material into fine pieces.”
Similar to other Maschio flail mowers, the Gemella features digitally balanced rotors to reduce vibration and wear, and help ensure reliability.
Opico said the 4.65metre-wide model costs £22,517+VAT, and the 6.20metre-wide model costs £24,352+VAT.
