A Texel shearling ram from Fraserburgh breeder Brian Buchan’s Clinterty flock led the charge at Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ online sale of pedigree rams yesterday.
The ram – named Clinterty Charlie – which sold for 1,400gn to the Walkers at Mains of Bruxie, Maud, is by the 24,000gn Allanfauld Am The Man.
Next best at 1,250gn was a February-born Texel ram lamb from the Howie family’s Knock flock at West Knock, Mintlaw.
Named Knock Daredevil, he is by the 8,000gn Sportsman Chieftain and sold to William and David Moir, Newmill, Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh.
Insch breeders Stuart and Wendy Hunter topped the Blue Texel sale when their shearling ram, Hunters Deerstalker, sold for 1,000gn.
By Caryl’s Blue Captain, he sold to the Johnstones at Tannachie, Stonehaven.
The Hunters also made 900gn selling another shearling – Little Whisker Daan, by Little Whisker Vroome – to Messrs Sinclair, Nottingham Mains, Latheron.
Meanwhile, Suffolks topped at 800gn twice.
First at this price, selling to A Spooner, Well Farm, Upper Hume, Staffordshire, was a shearling named Birness Bonkers, by Limestone Legacy. He was sold by Pat and Rory Machray, Daviot, Inverurie.
The other, selling to the Barclays at Tullo of Garvock, Laurencekirk, was a January-born ram lamb, by Beechcrest Boris, from the Lorimers at Cadgerford, Kingswells, Aberdeen.
Other leading prices included 800gn for a Texel shearling, by the 22,000gn Cowal Bucking Bronco, from Jemma Green’s Corskie flock at Garmouth. He sold to the Walkers at Mains of Bruxie.
Banchory breeder Rodney Blackhall also made 800gn selling a Texel shearling, by Haddo Bright Spark, to Ardunchart Farm, Kildrummy, Alford.
The Knox family, which runs the Haddo flock of Texels at Mid Haddo, Fyvie, sold to a top of 750gn twice for twin shearlings, by Hexel Born To Be Wild. Both sold to the Walkers at Mains of Bruxie.
Nairn breeder Katrina Macarthur, from Newton of Budgate, topped at 700gn for the first Blue Texel ram lamb to be sold from her Budgate flock.
By Lyles Django, he sold to the Leslies at Nia-roo, Gott, Shetland.
Cross rams topped at 800gn for a Texel cross Beltex shearling from Sarah Finnie, Newseat, Balthangie, Cuminestown. He sold to the Dennis family at Odiness, Stronsay, Orkney.
North Country Cheviots topped at 950gn for a shearling from Galashiels breeder Roderick Runciman.
By Allanshaws Silverstar, he sold to an undisclosed buyer.
