A Texel shearling led Aberdeen and Northern Marts’ annual multi-breed ram sale at Thainstone yesterday.
The sale topper at 1,300gn was a shearling by Blaencar Bono from Matthew Seed, Home Farm, Auchry, Cuminestown, Turriff. He sold to Ronald Anderson, Burnside, Orphir, Orkney.
Mr Seed also sold the second-top priced ram at 1,200gn to Ronnie Wilkie, Tillboy, Echt, Westhill. This was Auchry Cannon Ball, by Boghouse Atlanta.
Meanwhile, 1,100gn for Suffolk ram lambs was reached on three occasions, with the first, by Ballynacannon Noah, from the Stuart family’s Birness flock at Milltown of Birness, Ellon, selling to J Heggie, Carden Farm, Fossoway, Kinross.
The other two came from the Bruce family, who run the Lochton flock at Tillyeve, Udny, Ellon.
Selling to Stuart Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond, Insch, was a son of Knockem Big Star, while the other by Lakeview Landslide, sold to AJ Rae, Mains of Orchardtown, Udny, Ellon.
Stuart Wood, Broadwater, Skene, Aberdeen, led the Beltex trade at 900gn for a shearling and 800gn for a ram lamb.
His shearling by Broxty Boxer, sold to CJ MacPherson, Dulsie Farm, Glenferness, Nairn, while the ram lamb was purchased by Zoe Rennie, Newmill, Keith.
Melissa Irvine, of the Anside flock, Braehead, Drummuir, Keith, topped the Blue Texels at 900gn when sold to the Meldrums at Shenval, Ballindalloch. This was a shearling named Anside Dinky, by Xana Black Magic.
Charollais ram lambs peaked at 750gn twice for lambs at Eilidh and Erin Duncan, Barnyards, Clola, Mintlaw. Meanwhile, the top price in the Border Leicester section was 1,200gn for a ram lamb from Jimmy Douglas, Woodhead, Cairness, Fraserburgh. Selling to AC Haggart, Muirmouth, Madderty, Crieff, he is by Alticane Hitman.
Cross-bred tups reached 950gn for a Charollais cross Beltex from Howard and Andrew Davies, Hillhead of Cannahars, Whitecairns, when sold to Faith Farms, Peattie, Inverbervie.
Lastly, Bluefaced Leicesters sold to 650gn for a shearling from Matthew Seed, Home Farm, Auchry, to T and I Alexander, Slickly, Lyth, Wick.
