Lanarkshire young farmer Laura Fleming has been appointed national chairwoman of the Scottish Association of Young Farmers Clubs (SAYFC).
Ms Fleming, 26, works in the sales team at Harbro and is a past west chairwoman.
At the SAYFC National Council meeting in Edinburgh at the weekend, outgoing national chairwoman Katherine Marr said all regions had increased membership in the past year with association membership at its highest since 1999 at more than 3,200 members.
During the National Council on Saturday 3rd May 2014, Outgoing National Chairman Katherine Marr confirmed that all regions have increased membership which now sees the association provide personal opportunities for more than 3200 members, a number that has not been this high since 1999.
Taking on her new role, Ms Fleming said: “One of Katherine’s ambitions was to introduce a health and safety initiative for members, providing them with a meeting that raises their awareness of the hazards surrounding them.
“This has been well received by members and there is a clear demand for more. As a result one of my aims during 2014/2015 is to build on the training available to members by offering them additional meetings.”
Past West region chairman Scott Wilson was appointed new national vice chairman, while the regions will be headed up by Isobel Swanson in the north, Finlay McFarlane in the east and Lizzi Mackie in the west.
The international programme will be led by Hazel Ritchie and Scott Somerville will remain the agri and rural affairs chairman.
