Fyvie farmer Charlie Horn has won the overall prize in this year’s Turriff Show Cereal Growing Competition.
Mr Horn, who farms 1,200 acres at Parkburn, Fyvie, took the top title for a 38-acre crop of Cassia winter barley.
The crop, which is all cut and dried now, yielded at around 3.75tonnes an acre, and came off the combine with a moisture content of 13.6% and a bushel weight of 70.9kg a hectolitre.
Mr Horn, who predominantly grows spring barley, thanked his agronomist – Andy Steven from Agrovista – and said he was delighted to win the award.
The competition was sponsored by Scotgrain Agriculture and the overall judge was Alastair Aitken of Headland Agrichemicals.
