Aberdeenshire farmers David and Nicola Barron will host the latest in a series of events designed to help local farmers explore new ways to improve business efficiency.
The meeting will take place at 10am to 3pm on Thursday October 9 at the Barrons’ Nether Aden farm at Mintlaw and is part of the second round of the Scottish Government’s Farming for a Better Climate initiative.
Organised by Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC), the project is aimed at helping farmers improve business efficiency whilst at the same time lowering the farm’s carbon footprint.
The first three years of the initiative have produced positive results, with four units involved in the project saving over £60,000 between them and reducing their carbon footprint by as much as 10%.
Mr Barron said: “I am looking forward to being involved in this initiative. It will give us the opportunity to look very closely at the business and its impact on the environment. It will allow us to look at more efficient methods, leading to improvements in profitability and also the sustainability of the farm, both for ourselves and future generations.”
Farmers are encouraged to attend the meeting where they can find out more about the project and contribute to finding efficiency measures that fit local conditions.
