The Scottish Government must focus its efforts on implementing Common Agricultural Policy (Cap) reform, according to chair of the Rural Better Together campaign.
The plea from George Lyon – a former Lib Dem MEP – came following the referendum result this morning.
He said the outcome would be welcomed by the Scots agricultural community and called on Scottish and UK Government ministers to work together.
“The vast majority of farmers across Scotland backed staying in the UK as the best way to secure a prosperous and secure future for their industry and I am sure they will be delighted that the majority of Scots have said No to independence,” he said.
“Scottish farmers will now expect Scottish Government ministers to make sorting out their problems their number one priority not independence.
“They will also expect them to work constructively with the rest of the UK in finding solutions to the many outstanding issues facing farmers such as the implementation of Cap reform which have been on the back burner for far to long.”
