North-east Charollais breeders – the Ingram family from Logie Durno Farm, Inverurie – achieved a top price of 1,550gn at a recent production sale south of the border.
The family sold all 89 lots on offer at Ludlow Market, Shropshire, with 12 sheep achieving more than £1,000.
Topping the sale at 1,550gn was a 2012 bred ewe, by Rockvilla Golden Promise and out of a Rutland ewe, carrying triplets to the 3,200gn Wernfawr OMG.
The buyer for this lot, which was a full sister to the interbreed champion at the Royal Welsh Show in 2012, was Ben James, Tenbury Wells, near Worcester.
The top priced shearling ewe, at 1,480gn, was by Rutland Humdinger and out of a Southam ewe. This one was bought by Welsh breeder Alun Jones from Glan-y-Mor, Talsarnau, Gwynedd, for his recently formed flock.
The top price achieved for a ewe lamb, by Crogham Lambert, at 1,350gn was paid by David Roberts from Kenley in Shropshire.
In all 24 ewes sold to average £685.56; 49 shearling ewes sold to an average of £629.23 and 16 ewe lambs averaged £565.59.
