Scotch Beef has been crowned the nation’s favourite Scottish food, according to a poll.
The YouGov poll, which was commissioned by the 2014 Food and Drink campaign, found that the Scottish public’s number one food was Scotch Beef.
Coming second place in the poll was haggis, with Scotch Lamb voted the country’s sixth most popular food.
The poll also revealed that 66% of the public want to buy local food produced in Scotland.
Quality Meat Scotland is responsible for marketing Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb, which both have European Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) status.
It also markets quality assured Scottish pork under the Specially Selected Pork brand.
The red meat levy body’s chairman Jim McLaren said: “This news is a fantastic boost for the Scottish red meat industry and all those who word so hard to bring top quality Scotch Beef, Scottish Lamb and Specially Selected Pork to the table here in Scotland and around the globe.
“The fact that Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb rank so highly in the poll is a reflection of dedication, care and commitment which goes into these first class brands.
“Everyone involved – from the family farms at the heart of our livestock production system to our auction markets, feed companies, butchers and processors – should take great pride in this recognition of the quality of Scotch Beef and Scotch Lamb.”
