A top price of £1,560 was achieved at the spring show and sale of Aberdeen-Angus, Shorthorn and native breed store cattle at the Thainstone Centre, Inverurie, yesterday.
The show, sponsored by the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society and supported by Morrisons, was judged by Jim Angus, of Springbank Croft, Bridge of Marnoch. The overall Aberdeen-Angus championship was awarded to J. L. Morrison and Sons, of Ingliston, Keithhall, Inverurie, for a 25-month-old heifer. The 622kg beast sold for £1,370 to D. and V. Buchan, Savoch, Longside.
Mr Angus gave the reserve championship to a 24-month-old heifer from Muir and Sons, Gorn, Balfour, Orkney. The 576kg beast sold for £1,290 to Blackmuir Trading, Keith.
The award for best pen of four Aberdeen-Angus cattle went to R. and E. Baikie, Easter Duthill, Carrbridge. This lot sold to J.H. Fowlie, Adziel, Strichen, for £4,680. Meanwhile, the champion Shorthorn pair title went to two from R.J.F. and J.M. Seatter, Elsness, Sanday, Orkney. The pair sold to D. and V. Buchan for £2,680.
Champion in the show of store cattle held by Aberdeen and Northern Marts at Quoybrae was a 770kg Char bullock from Alan Mowat and Sons, Quoynee, and sold for £1,700 to the judge. Reserve was a 480kg Lim bullock from J. and R. Allan, Gillock Mains, and sold for £1,340 to W. and J. Cameron, Burnside of Edingight, Grange.
