A new centre record for a Texel female was set at the Aberdeen Christmas Classic, when Robbie Wilson’s February-born ewe lamb by Harestone Eldorado sold for 7,000gns.
The sale topper from Robbie’s Milnbank flock at North Dorlaithers, Turriff, was first in her class and knocked down to Alan and Hugh Blackwood, Auldhouseburn, Muirkirk, Ayrshire.
Bred in the purple, her 17,000gns sire has bred sons to 25,000gns, and her dam by Auldhouseburn Billy The Kid is an ET sister to Milnbank Cobra that sold for 7,000gns.
It was a good day for the Milnbank flock as they also topped the gimmer trade at 3,600gns with a second prize daughter of the 30,000gns Teiglum Dancing Brave, carrying twins to the 26,000gns Knockem Ferocious.
She was bought by Helen Hunter of Braehead, Huntly.
Another Texel ewe lamb, this time from Sandy Lee, Fourdafourie, Fraserburgh, made 2,500gns to K Ingram, Ballochview, Keith. She was by Teiglum Bandana out of a ewe by Milnbank Cortez.
Caithness breeder Andrew Gunn paid 2,000gns for the best from Kenny Pratt’s Hilltop pen; the gimmer by Knock Dalwhinnie was in lamb to Auldhouseburn Fancy Pants.
Another from this breeder’s flock based at Peterculter went for 1,600gns; this third prize gimmer by Sportsmans Cannon Ball was bought by WJ Jack and Sons, Woodhead, Muir of Ord.
The reserve champion Texel was a two-crop ewe by Boghouse Atlanta from Matthew Seed, Home Farm of Auchry, Cuminestown.
She was part of the group which won reserve champion in the north-east flock competition recently and was bought for 1,300gns by A MacLean, Isle of Barra.
Another gimmer to make this price was one by Deveronvale Dave from Graham Morrison, Inchbruich, Cornhill; she was knocked down to WA Adams and Sons, Banchory.
Champion Texel
The champion Texel was a gimmer from the Ingram family, Logie Durno, Pitcaple, who are well known for their at-home commercial sales.
This daughter of the 40,000gns Garngour Alabama and expecting twins to Feddal Road Easypeasy was bought for 1,000gns by Ian Spence, Hillview, Turriff.
Suffolks sold to a top of 2,400gns for a third prize gimmer from Melvin Stuart’s Birness flock at Ellon.
By Limestone Legacy and carrying twins by the 13,000gns Sportsman 5 Star, she was purchased by Tommy Linklater for his Stonelea flock at Stenness, Orkney.
The champion Suffolk was a gimmer from Graeme Christie, Newton of Balquhain, Inverurie, by the 5,500gns Howgillfoot Sniper, which was the sire of Graeme’s Highland Show champion and of gimmers which sold for 7,000gns and 8,000gns respectively at Carlisle.
She was bought by James Young, Muirton of Corse, Alford, for 2,000gns.
Mr Young also paid 2,000gns for another Howgillfoot Sniper daughter, a gimmer in lamb to Muirton The Joker from James Innes, Dunscroft, Huntly.
The top-price Suffolk ewe lamb at 2,000gns was also from Melvin Stuart, this one by Harpercroft Houdini went to Isle of Islay breeder J Bignell, Bridgend.
The reserve champion Suffolk was a ewe lamb from Craig Paterson’s Cranorskie’s flock at Cranna Bridge, Aberchirder.
This daughter of Birness Banter made 1,900gns to M Miley, Ballyglass, Roscommon.
Another two from the Birness flock made four figures; a gimmer by Limestone Legacy which went for 1,800gns to J Bignell, and the second prize gimmer by the 30,000gns Salopian Scuderia which sold for 1,500gns to another Islay breeder, J MacDonald, also Bridgend.
The champion Beltex was a gimmer from Stuart Wood, Broadwater, Skene.
This home-bred daughter of Woodies Frantic, which was used as a lamb and then sold for 3,000gns, made 1,000gns to Ellie Miller, The Lurg, Midmar.
There was no show of Blue Texels, but they sold to a top of 2,000gns for a gimmer from WJ and M Hunter, West Cairnhill, Culsalmond.
Hunters Fanny was by Hunters Deerstalker and purchased by Neil Wattie, Mains of Tonley, Alford.
Another from this flock, Hunters Fickle by Lyles Eagle made 1,600gns to M and A Lennie, Seaview, Sanday, Orkney.
A Dutch Spotted gimmer from Brenda Scott, Burnside, Marykirk, made 1,450gns to J Cameron, Balnacaan, Drumnadrochit. Speyside Elfie was by Thistledome Blacknite.
