Charolais bulls led the charge at Thainstone this week with the breed achieving the top price and supreme championship rosettes.
Judging the pre-sale show at Aberdeen and Northern Marts was Andrew Anderson, of Smallburn Farms, Elgin.
He crowned his overall supreme champion title to the Charolais breed champion from Gerwyn Jones, of Kinknockie, Mintlaw.
October-2013 born Craiggoch Inspire is by Maerdy Grimaldi and out of Thrunton Starband. He sold for 4,800gn to the firm of A. A. Younger, Hoy, Thurso.
The top price at the sale of 5,000gn was paid for a second-prize winning Charolais bull from J. A. Wilson and Sons, of Kinclune, Glenkindie.
April-2013 born Kinclune Ignition is a son of the 20,000gn Thrunton Crownprince and out of Kinclune Bridget. He was bought by Leys Estate, Inverness.
The Wilsons were also responsible for the reserve Charolais champion – May-2013 born Kinclune Irwin, by the same sire as the top-priced beast but out of Kinclune Angela. He sold for 4,200gn to M. and E. Lord, 5 Lochend, Castletown, Caithness.
Limousin bulls achieved 4,000gn three times including for the breed champion from Albert Howie, of West Knock, Stuartfield.
June-2013 born Knock Black Ironman is a polled son of Goldies Florida and out of Knock Glenaden. He was bought by E. and E. Anderson and Son, Ranna, Tarland.
The reserve champion, Buchaam Innes, by Carmorn Copilot, from Charles and Keith Ogg, Buchaam Farm, Strathdon, was unsold at 4,500gn.
When it came to the Simmentals, both the breed champion and reserve sold for 3,800gn.
The champion – November-2013 born Islavale Elite from Stewart Stronach at Berryleys Farm, Grange, Keith – sold to A. G. Alexander, Newton of Savoch, Peterhead. This one is by Curaheen Bandit and out of Islavale Sally.
The reserve – August-2013 born Clonagh Expert Rex from Neil and Stewart Barclay, of South Road, Insch – sold to Neish Brothers, Bowbutts, Strachan, Banchory. This one is by Banwy T-Rex and out of Clonagh Neva.
Only three of the 10 Aberdeen-Angus bulls forward found a new home. Both the champion and reserve bulls were unsold. The champion was Bridgefoot Winston, by Haymount Wager, from A. Fordyce and Sons, Bridgefoot, Kemnay, with the reserve from Alasdair Locke, Glenrinnes Lodge, Dufftown, with Bregach Blue Boy, by Skaill Decision.
The breed topped at 2,000gn for a fourth-prize winning August-2013 born lot from Alexander J. Norrie, of Wrae Farm, Turriff.
Wrae Proud Imprint, by Borewell Eastern Flame and out of Wrae Proud Iris, sold to S. and J. Youngson, North Fornet, Skene.
Lastly two Hereford bulls from Messrs Mathers, of South Leylodge, Kintore, Inverurie, sold for 1,900gn and 2,900gn, while a Lincoln Red from Auchmacoy Estates made 2,400gn.
