A dedicated campsite for young farmers attending the Royal Highland Show has been given a £30,000 cash boost.
Show organisers – the Royal Highland and Agricultural Society of Scotland (RHASS) – says young farmers will feel more comfortable camping at the event thanks to the investment.
According to show manager David Jackson, the investment includes the installation of a permanent fence around the site which will then be patrolled by security teams 24 hours a day throughout the show.
Only those registered to enter, and wearing the appropriate wristband, will be allowed access to the site.
“We are aware that last year there were some people entering the campsite without the appropriate authorisation. This will not happen for the 2015 show. We are committed to providing our young farmers with a positive and safe experience and these new measures will assist us in delivering on this promise,” said Mr Jackson.
Other improvement works include an upgrade to the campsite shower blocks with the installation of a vanity unit with mirrors, additional shelving and plug points for hair dryers, electric shavers and hair straighteners.
Mr Jackson added: “We have listened to feedback from our young farmers who asked us to look at installing additional facilities. We are only too pleased to accommodate this request and hope it will add to what is already a highlight in the social calendar of many farmers – young and old.”
Young farmers wishing to make use of the campsite at the show must apply online by May 15 to gain access.
The cost per caravan is £100 and the site is open to members of young farmers clubs from anywhere in the country.
