NFU Scotland’s Buchan branch is on the hunt for raffle prize donations ahead of a special charity event in memory of the Press and Journal’s late farming editor Joe Watson.
A charity stockjudging and social evening will take place on Friday, June 26, at Adziel Farm, near Fraserburgh, which is run by Jim and Irene Fowlie.
The evening kicks off at 6.15pm and the Fowlies will have classes of Aberdeen-Angus stots and Suffolk sheep, from the Essie flock, on show for stockjudging.
Refreshments and food will be provided by Country Flavours of Alford and a special ‘guess the weight’ competition will also be held.
Weather permitting, visitors will be able to go on a tractor and trailer farm tour of the Fowlies’ enterprise.
The evening will conclude with a raffle and the presentation of a trophy by Joe’s family.
The event was launched last year in memory of Joe, who died suddenly at the age of 43 in March last year.
His family – mother Mirren, brothers Fraser and Murdo, and nephew and niece Joe and Amy – plan to attend this year’s event. All funds raised from the evening will be presented to three charities which Joe supported – the Sandpiper Trust, Scottish Charity Air Ambulance and RSABI. There will also be a presentation of the Joe Watson Perpetual Trophy to the winner of the stockjudging competition.
NFU Scotland’s north-east regional manager Lorna Paterson is currently looking for donations of prizes for the charity raffle.
“All donations are welcome – we are raising money for rural charities,” said Ms Paterson.
Prizes can be left at NFU Scotland’s Thainstone office with Lee Walker, Duncan Low or Martin Horne. Alternatively they can be given to Ms Paterson, who can be contacted on 07786 860453.
