Royal Northern Agricultural Society awards open for nominations

The Royal Northern Agricultural Society (RNAS) is on the hunt for citations for its prestigious awards.

Every year the society presents four awards to recognise the achievements of and contributions from members of the farming community.

RNAS secretary Alison Argo said: “Anyone can put in a citation. We want them to give as much information about the person they are nominating as possible on no more than one A4 sheet of paper.

“If you are not sure which category to nominate someone for that does not matter as we will move them to whatever one is appropriate.”

She said selection for the awards was based on the information provided in the citations, and previous citations would be considered if they were formally resubmitted.

First up, the Press and Journal Award recognises a public figure or personality for their services to agriculture.

Next up, the local award, which is sponsored by Aberdeen and Northern Marts, aims to recognise someone for their services to local communities, specialist farming organisations or groups. This award is presented to a non-public figure who has made an outstanding contribution to progress in the industry.

Meanwhile, the David Argo Award is presented to an unsung hero employed in the agricultural sector, while the Under 35 Award, sponsored by SRUC, is for anyone in that age group who has shown significant achievement and contribution to agriculture.

The closing date for citations is Monday July 6. Citations should be emailed to secretary@rnas.info.

Mrs Argo said all citations must outline what the nominee has done and why they deserve the award. They must include some career highlights and information on what organisations that person has been part of, as well as outlining any noted achievements or examples of situations where their contributions makes them worthy of recognition.

The winners will be announced in the Press and Journal later this year and presented with their awards at a special lunch on November 6 at Hotel Connection, which was formerly called Thistle Aberdeen Airport hotel.
