A long-awaited brand to promote Scottish dairy products to members of the public was unveiled by Nicola Sturgeon at the Royal Highland Show.
“This new brand will help consumers support Scottish producers and help in marketing our excellent produce abroad,” said the First Minister.
“The dairy sector has had a difficult time and I want to assure farmers that we are doing everything we can to help them through the recent reductions in milk prices, and I hope our newly established Scottish Dairy Brand will play a part in that.”
The brand has been adopted by 11 processors, including Graham’s the Family Dairy and Cambus O’ May Cheese in Ballater, representing milk from around 150 farmers.
It will feature on 18 brands supplying 39 products across three ranges – heritage, artisan and organic.
To qualify for the brand, all products have to be made with 100% Scottish milk.
The development of the brand was part of a dairy action plan launched by the government earlier this year.
This was in response to the impact falling milk prices are having on Scots dairy farmers.
In January the Press and Journal launched a campaign to help struggling dairy farmers. The campaign, which has been backed by local producers, calls on members of the public to buy more British and Scottish dairy produce.
