A Limousin cross heifer taking the show circuit by storm was crowned the supreme champion of champions at the Fettercairn Show.
Torrential rain was a headache for stewards and journalists attempting to record championship wins, but it was business as usual for competitors.
The top title of champion of champions was judged by a trio from the show society’s honorary presidential team: president Jim Brown, vice-president William Ross and past president Ken Nichol.
This year’s contest was between the beef interbreed champion and overall sheep champion.
The judges said it was a close contest but the beef champion reigned supreme for being an “outstanding beast”. The accolade went to a cross champion from Blair Duffton and Rebecca Stuart.
Bought at the Thainstone Spectacular in September last year for £3,800, 19-month-old Limousin cross heifer Lady Moo Moo is by Haltcliffe Donny and bred by Grant Morrison at Newtack, Keith. Her Fettercairn win follows taking the cross championship at Angus last month.
Standing in reserve in the beef interbreed championship was the Limousin breed champion from Andrew and James Gammie, of Drumforber, Laurencekirk. Their home-bred yearling bull Westpit Jockey is by Plumtree Deus and out of Westpit Gabby.
In the sheep rings the interbreed championship title went to the Suffolk breed champion from James Scott, of Strathview, Ingliston, Forfar. This weekend’s win follows winning breed championship at Fettercairn last year as well as the champion at Angus this year and last.
Redbrae Real Deal, which was bought at Stirling as a lamb, is by Ardlea Atomic and it also stood as male champion at Kirriemuir last year.
The reserve sheep interbreed title went to a three-crop Texel ewe from Alistair and Tom Greenhill, of Westhall, Kellas, Dundee.
The Ettrick-bred ewe was bought at the Select Seven sale – it is by Ettrick Rainbow Warrior and was placed at the Highland last month. The last notable award in the sheep rings was the presentation of the Agricar championship, which goes round the sheep section for the overall winner in a certain class. The prize was awarded to Allan Alston’s Texel gimmer, which stood reserve to the breed champion.
In the equestrian ring, the coveted overall champion of the horse section title went to the Highland breed champion. Put forward by Susanne Shepherd, of East Brachmant, Durris, Banchory, West Lodge Alexander is by McLeod of Inverdarroch.
