Here’s a list of all the breed champions from Saturday’s Nairn Show:
CATTLE
Highland: Allanfearn Highlanders, Newhouse, Strathpeffer, with home-bred two-year-old heifer Rowan of Allanfearn, which is by Crusoe of Brue and out of Abigail of Tirryside. She was champion at Sutherland the week before.
Reserve – Tilbouries Fold, East Tilbouries, Maryculter, Aberdeen, with a yearling bull shown by Maureen Macarthur of Allanfearn Highlanders. Campbell of Tilbouries is by Campbell 1st of Tordarroch and out of Ciara Dubh of Lismore.
Aberdeen-Angus: Glenrinnes Farms, Dufftown, with three-year-old bull Logie Limited Edition. Bred by Messrs Bruce at Logie and bought at Stirling in February 2014 for 8,000gn, this one is by Blelack Hildalgo and out of Logie Lady. He was breed champion at Echt.
Reserve – Glenrinnes Farms with six-year-old cow Wedderlie Omossie which was bough three years ago for 4,000gn. By Aynho Rosseter Eric and out of Wedderlie Omaca, she has bred sons to 4,600gn and stood reserve female at the Black Isle last year.
Any other native breed: John Scott and Partners, Fearn Farm, Fearn, Tain, with five-year-old Shorthorn bull Dakota of Upsall, which was bought at Stirling for 10,000gn. This Broughton Park Thunder son it out of an Upsall cow. He stood reserve interbreed champion at Caithness and native breed champion at Sutherland.
Reserve – Glenrinnes Farms with home-bred two-year-old Shorthorn heifer Glenrinnes Gabrielle. She is by Chapelton Enzine and out of a home-bred cow.
Limousin: Michael Robertson, Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul with home-bred yearling bull Fodderletter Jardine. This Spittalton Gold son is out of Homebyres Elderberry. He stood second at Echt and Banchory.
Reserve – Grant Laing, Gaich Farms, Grantown on Spey, with two-year-old bull Culnagechan Ibrox. Bought in Carlisle in October 2014 for 10,000gn, he is by Carmorn Copilot and out of Culnagechan Espana.
Simmental: Jimmy and Iain Green, Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers, with the 45,000gn bull Bel Dhu Capercaillie. Bred by Billy and Anne Macpherson, of Blackford, Croy, Inverness, this one is by Hockenhull Waterloo and out of Blackford Wagtail. He was bought by the Greens in Stirling in February 2013 and holds the UK record for the highest priced Simmental. He stood beef interbreed champion at Echt and breed champion at New Deer.
Reserve – Jimmy and Iain Green, with heifer Corskie Emerald, by Dirnanean Bradley and out of Corskie Jools 2. She stood reserve at Echt and New Deer, and champion continental at Sutherland.
Charolais: John Irvine and Son, Inverlochy Farm, Tomintoul, with December-2013 born bull Kilbline Instigator. Bough from Ireland four months ago, he is by Oscar.
Reserve – John Irvine and Son with home-bred two-year-old in-calf heifer Inverlochy Ingris, by Lochend Apache and out of a home-bred cow.
Cross: Smallburn Farms, Plewlands Farm, Duffus, with September-2014 born Limousin cross heifer You Beauty. Shown by freelance stockwoman Sarah Robertson, who celebrated her 25th birthday at the show, this one is by French Limousin bull Brian and out of a Limousin cross British Blue cow. She will be sold at the Thainstone Spectacular later this year.
Reserve – Anna Wilson, Wester Cairnglass, Gollanfield, Inverness, with home-bred September-2014 born Limousin cross bullock Black Magic. This one was champion young farmers’ beast at Sutherland.
HORSES
Clydesdale: Eric and Miranda Johnstone, 50 Highfield Circle, Muir of Ord, with home-bred four-year-old brood mare Ord Envy, shown with a filly foal at foot. On her first outing this year, Envy is by Dillars Scotty Boy and out of Ord Touch of Class. She took supreme champion of champions at Sutherland last year as well as supreme horse at Black Isle and Grantown.
Reserve – David Walker and Bev Brown, Galcantray Farm, Cawdor, Nairn, with eight-year-old gelding Storm. Bought as a three-year-old he is by Singley Storm, and has previously won the male champion title at Nairn.
Highland: Wendy Sanders, Rowanbank, Brae of Kinkell, Ferintosh, Dingwall, with home-bred five-year-old brood mare Ruwenzori Foxglove, shown with a colt foal at foot. She is by Rannoch of Fourmark and out of Chapelhill Dee Dee. She won at the Black Isle last year.
Reserve – Sally Leslie Melville, South Cantray, Croy, with home-bred two-year-old filly Glenbanchor Lady Florence, which is by Mosside Iain Mor and out of Glenbanchor Lady Fiona. Her dam won the overall champion title at Nairn in 1998.
Shetland: Balnakyle Show Team, Ardmhor, Balnakyle Farm, Munlochy, with five-year-old mare Stow Rosie, which is by Warrickston Bob and out of Lairg Holly Girl. Reserve – Jane Barry, Ceann-Na-Coille, Upper Braefindon, Culbokie, with home-bred five-year-old mare Kinkell Gilean, which is by Kinkell Guardsman and out of Kinkell Gaia.
SHEEP
Blackface: Billy MacPherson, Blackford, Croy, Inverness, with a gimmer by an Auldhouseburn tup and out of a ewe by a £5,000 Dyke.
Reserve – Charlie Macintyre and Gemma Macintosh of Lower Nuide Farm Cottage, Kingussie, with a home-bred ewe lamb by a Troloss sire called Diamond White and out of a ewe bred at Troloss.
Suffolk: Charlie and Ian Young, Bareflathills Farm, Elgin, with a three-crop ewe which stood supreme sheep champion at Nairn last year. This one is by Glenhill See The Stars and out of a ewe by Muirton Landmark.
Reserve – Andrew, Andy and Susie Simpson, Wester Coxton Farm, Elgin, with three-shear tup Lakeview Tycoon which was bough at Shrewsbury for 1,100gn. He is by Threeway Tycoon and out of a ewe by a Castle Wellan sire.
Texel: Alan Chisholm, Wester Moy Texels, Wester Moy, Urray, Muir of Ord, with a home-bred gimmer by Teiglum Tornado. He stood second to the overall champion at Sutherland.
Reserve – Keith Ingram, 2 Balloch View, Grange, Keith, with a one-crop ewe bred at Pennan. By Mellorvale Template, she was bought at the in-lamb sale in Dingwall last December for 800gn.
Bluefaced Leicester: Muriel Ross, The Arr Farm, Lethen, Nairn, with a home-bred two-crop ewe by a Watersyke sire. She was first as a ewe lamb at Nairn three years ago.
Reserve – Raymond Baynes, Blackford, Croy, Inverness, with a home-bred tup lamb by a Rossiebank sire and out of a ewe bred at Rossiebank.
Beltex: Grant Ireland and Laura Murphy, Blackhillock, Cairnie, Huntly, with tup lamb called Glenisla Artful Dodger. This one is by Broughton Poundstretcher and out of Horseclose Pollyana.
Reserve – John Scott and Partners with a two-shear tup called Loandhu Shogun. This one, which was bought in a half share with Allan Munro, is by Viagrow and out of Loandhu Petal.
Cheviot: GRG McCallum and Son, Belmaduthy, Munlochy, with shearling tup Belmaduthy Stellar, which is by Gospelhall Pick Me, which was bought at Lockerbie two years ago for £1,400.
Reserve – A Mckenzie and Son, Muirton, Munlochy, with a three-crop ewe, which was bought from the Philiphaugh flock in February’s in-lamb sale at Lockerbie for 600gn. This one is by Broomhillbank Johnny Walker.
Jacob: Adam Christie, Birchfield, Glass, Huntly, with a home-bred gimmer by Blackbrook Dragon. She was champion at New Deer and stood champion at Grantown last year.
Reserve – Adam Christie, with a ewe lamb, also by Blackbrook Dragon. She is a full sister to the champion gimmer.
Cross: Lynne, Katriona and Anne Macarthur, Newton of Budgate, Cawdor, Nairn, with Suffolk cross Texel wether lambs.
Reserve – Lynne, Katriona and Anne Macarthur with a pen of three Texel cross ewe lambs.
Mules: Robert Mackenzie, The Glebe, Boat of Garten, with a pen of three ewe lambs.
Reserve – not awarded.
Any other breed: A McKenzie and Son, Muirton, Munlochy, with an April-born Zwartbles tup lamb by Janetstown WD40.
Reserve – Alfie Clark, 11, of Connage, Ardersier, with a Zwartbles ewe lamb.
