The body which oversees Red Tractor farm assurance has appointed a new chairman.
Assured Food Standards (AFS), which operates the Red Tractor scheme, launched a hunt to find a new chairman to replace David Gregory earlier this year.
Although Scottish combinable crops, pigs, beef and lamb producers have their farm assurance covered by Quality Meat Scotland and Scottish Quality Crops, the farm assurance for many fresh produce, dairy and poultry producers falls to Red Tractor.
Taking on the role from the end of November this year is Jim Moseley, whose previous roles included 15 years as managing director at General Mills UK and 12 years at Tulip as sales and marketing director. More recently, he was the interim director general of the Food and Drink Federation as well as a board member of FoodDrinkEurope.
When AFS was recruiting a new chairman a job description revealed the role would pay an annual salary of £35,000 for one day’s work a week. The part-time role requires a chairman to work for 50 days per year, equating to a salary of £700 per day.
The Red Tractor logo appears on more than £11billion of food products, alerting consumers to the fact the food or drink has been produced on UK farms.
