More than 1,000 rams are up for grabs at Dingwall Mart next Friday.
Auctioneers Dingwall and Highland Marts is preparing for the great annual sale of North Country Cheviot Hill rams, alongside the sale of Suffolk and continental rams.
Marts executive director, Paul Spencer, said 713 Cheviot Hill rams were forward, alongside 344 Suffolk and continental breed tups. He said the sale of Cheviot Hill rams was likely to be the biggest of its kind in the UK.
The day will kick off at 8am with a show for the Cheviots, judged by Neil Montgomery form Ose Farm on the Isle of Skye. The sale will follow at 10am.
Meanwhile the Suffolks and continental rams will be sold in the other sale ring at 11am.
Last year’s sale of Cheviots topped at £5,000 when a two-shear tup by Keppoch Lanbow, put forward by Robert Macdonald of Castle Grant Home Farm in Grantown, went through the ring.
It sold to the consignor of the pre-sale show champion – Suisgill Estate, Helmsdale. This three-shear tup was Hethpool bred and by the £12,000 Attonburn Grand Slum.
