Limousin bulls topped at 10,000gn on the closing day of the first week of the spring Stirling Bull Sales yesterday.
A total of 56 bulls of the 76 forward sold to an average of £4,601. In February 2015, 62 bulls sold to an average of £4,625.
Leading the trade was the overall and junior champion from Neil and Stuart Barclay, South Road, Insch, Aberdeenshire.
Harestone Jim is a June-2014 born AI son of Fieldson Alfy, out of Millburn Caoimhe. Alfy has previously bred bulls to 120,000gn.
Judge James Hazard praised the quality of the bulls on offer and said there was a “really good standard of commercial bulls with good solid quality”. The champion heads north to Michael Cursiter at Laga Farms, Evie, Orkney.
Next best at 9,000gn was a fourth-prize winning lot from Andrew Burnett’s Spittalton herd at Blair Drummond, Stirling.
July-2014 born Spittalton Jimbob is by Maraiscote Gigolo and out of Spittalton Frisky. He was bought by W & M Wood, Octofad Farm, Port Charlotte, Isle of Islay.
Three lots sold for 7,800gn including the reserve overall and intermediate champion from Bruce Goldie, Townfoot Farm, Mouswald, Dumfries.
Goldies Jonjo is a home-bred May-2014 born son of Goldies Fortress.
He sold to G & M Porter, Carrabus Farm, Bridgend, Isle of Islay.
The Goldies herd sold another at 7,800gn when the reserve junior champion went under the hammer. Goldies Black Jonah is a black polled June-2014 born son of Goldies Fortress, out of Goldies Visa. He was bought by R Simpson & Son, Mains of Creuchies, Alyth, Perthshire.
