North-east animal feed firm Norvite is on the hunt for applications for its scholarship scheme.
The Oldmeldrum-based firm launched the scheme, which is run in conjunction with SRUC, in 2013 to commemorate its 40th anniversary.
The scheme, which offers financial support of £1,000, is open to applications from any third year agriculture students studying at SRUC.
It aims to support a student’s dissertation project by balancing education with agricultural industry involvement.
Last year’s scholar is Morag Brown from New Deer, who is in her final year of a degree in agriculture at SRUC’s Craibstone campus in Aberdeen.
Ms Brown, from Hilton of Culsh, is carrying out a trial investigating the value of feeding fish oil feed supplements to ewes before and during tupping time.
The project focuses on three groups of sheep – one received no supplement, one was given a standard pre-tupping product, and the third was given a diet with extra fish oil supplying trace elements and omega-3.
Ms Brown will scan the ewes to see which ones are pregnant and if they are carrying twins.
She said: “Winning the scholarship was a great boost. The £1,000 prize helped cover expenses and the access to help from Norvite staff has been invaluable.”
Norvite’s technical director David McClelland said: “The scholarship provides students with a great opportunity to develop research skills.”
Students interested in applying must submit their CV, a project proposal and a submission of no more than 500 words on the potential benefits of the project to Norvite and the wider land-based sector.
Applications, which must include project costings, must be submitted by March 18.
