North-east farmers are to hold a special charity event once again this year in memory of the Press and Journal’s late farming editor Joe Watson.
The third annual Joe Watson stockjudging and social evening takes place on Thursday, June 30, at Robbie and Barbara Milne’s North Bethelnie Farm, Oldmeldrum.
The event was launched by NFU Scotland two years ago in memory of Joe, who died suddenly in March 2014 at the age of 43.
As well as a stockjudging competition, which offers a perpetual trophy in honour of Joe for the champion, refreshments and a roast pig will be on offer courtesy of north-east pig producers Kevin Gilbert and Danny Skinner.
The evening kicks off at 6.30pm and all funds raised from the event will be donated to the Royal Northern Countryside Initiative and the Scottish Charity Air Ambulance.
The event will be attended by Joe’s family – mother Mirren, brothers Fraser and Murdo, and nephew and niece Joe and Amy – as well as NFU Scotland vice-president Andrew McCornick.
