A 21-year-old farmer’s daughter from Nairn has been appointed regional chairman for the north of Scotland at the Scottish Association of Young Farmers’ Clubs (SAYFC).
Lynne Macarthur, of Newton of Budgate, Cawdor, Nairn, takes on the post for the next 12 months replacing Ruari Box.
When not helping out on the family’s 1,000-acre mixed farm, Ms Macarthur works for Highland Business Services as a training services co-ordinator.
She is the first member of Nairn JAC to take on the role of chairman for the north region and previously served as the club’s secretary and treasurer, before taking on the role of district secretary for Ross, Nairn and Inverness (RNI).
She has set herself three objectives for her time as chairman. These are: to change the region’s annual big night out, which usually takes place in October, to a full weekend of sports competitions; to ensure all clubs in the region have an up-to-date and relevant syllabus; and to boost membership in the region by encouraging all office-bearers in clubs across the north of Scotland to go on a recruitment drive and promote SAYFC at events.
Joining Ms Macarthur is a new vice chairman for the region – Kim Taylor, from Turriff.
Elected members for the year ahead are: Aberdeen & Kincardine – Stewart King, Derek Anderson, Fiona Middleton, Lynsey Thow; East Aberdeenshire – Gemma Bruce, Aimee Margrove, John Brown, Kim Taylor; West Aberdeenshire – Kimberly Webster, Marelle Marshall, Nicol Dow, Peter Duthie; Deveron & Speyside – Ewan Gordon, Stuart Fraser, Gemma Duguid, Rachel MacKellar; RNI – Rachel Matheson, Gus Forbes, Scott Pirie, Neil Bridgeford; Caithness – Fiona Sinclair, Michael Gunn, Greg Robertson, John Anderson; Orkney – Robert Alexander, Steven Sanger, Peter Moss, Erin Stout; ex officio – Ruari Box.
