A 17-month old Simmental bull from well-known Morayshire breeders – the Green family at Corskie, Garmouth, Fochabers – lifted the junior beef interbreed title at the 2016 Royal Highland Show.
Judge Michael Robertson of Fodderletter Farms, Tomintoul, gave the champion rosettes to Corskie Gingersnap.
On his first outing, Gingersnap is a home-bred son of Bel Dhu Capercaillie, out of Corskie Winola.
Capercaillie was bought by the Greens at Stirling in February 2013 for 45,000gn. He was bred by Billy and Anne Macpherson, of Blackford, Croy, Inverness, and he holds the UK record for the highest-priced Simmental.
The Green family, who run a herd of 180 pedigree cows and a commercial herd of 400 Simmental cross suckler cows, plan to take Gingersnap around more shows this summer.
Standing reserve was a 13-month-old Limousin bull from Devon breeders Mike and Melanie Alford at Foxhill Farm, Collumpton.
Foxhill Lord of the Rings is by Guards Boomer and out of Bankdale Alice. His Highland Show success follows taking the interbreed title at the Devon County Show and the male champion rosettes at the Royal Cornwall Show earlier this year.
The Alfords run a herd of 60 pedigree cows.
