The Press and Journal is urging all readers to get behind its Local Milk is Miles Better campaign by sending a letter to their supermarket asking it to stock local milk.
The Local Milk is Miles Better campaign, which launched last week, sets out to instigate a sea-change in supermarket buying habits by showing them our support and willingness to buy local milk.
To help with this we have prepared a letter on page seven of today’s Farming supplement which you can rip out, sign and send away to the head office of your local supermarket.

We have also included the names and addresses of the people you need to send the letter to.
Press and Journal farming editor, Gemma Mackenzie, said: “At the moment all of the milk stocked in north-east supermarkets has travelled at least 100 miles before it reaches the shop shelves. It is currently not possible to buy milk which has been produced, processed and bottled in the Grampian region.
“Sadly the north-east dairy industry is on the brink of collapse following the closure of Muller’s milk processing factory in Aberdeen, with farmers now being forced to pay to have their milk brought south for processing.
“By showing your support for local milk and telling supermarkets you want to be able to buy it, we can help save these dairy farms and build the business case for a new factory to be built in the region to process local milk for the local market.”
As well as sending away the letter to your local supermarket head office, you can show your support for the north-east dairy sector by signing our milk pledge.
Miss Mackenzie added: “We have had a fantastic response to the petition so far and the comments people have left show a growing demand for local milk. If you haven’t already done so, please take the time to sign this as well as sending away the letter. I believe we can make a real difference to the fortunes of the north-east dairy sector. We just need your support.”
