Scottish breeders were out in force at the Zwartbles Sheep Association’s premier show and sale in Carlisle.
The fixture, which is in its 12th year, was conducted by Harrison and Hetherington with 171 animals exchanging hands.
Leading the sale at 1,600gn was a sixth-prizewinning shearling ram from Thomas and Isla Goldie, of Townfoot Farm, Mouswald, Dumfries.
The youngsters’ ram Lochwood Cammy, which was bred by Mr S Baird, is by Lochwood Ally and out of a Lochwood ewe. He sold to Eoin Harold, of Malkethill, Glass, Huntly.
Next best at the sale selling for 1,500gn was a ram lamb from I & A Donald’s Donbraid flock in Newtownstewart, Co. Tyrone, Northern Ireland.
December-2015 born Donbraid Direction is by Gillhall Amarok and out of Balchurn Skye. He sold to David Moir, of Home Farm, Cairness, Fraserburgh.
Thereafter 1,100gn was achieved four times.
Included at this price was a first-prizewinning aged ram from Joyce and Neil Millar’s Joyfield flock at Wood House Mains, Lockerbie.
Their two-year-old ram Didcot Benji, which was bought in 2014 when he stood reserve male champion at Stirling, is by Joyfield Andy Pandy and out of Blacklee Sorcha. He was snapped up by K & S Cowin, of Carnwath, Lanark.
Other leading prices in the male section included 950gn for a February-born ram lamb from G & L Owen’s Cernyw flock at Llannerch Felys, Conwy.
Cernyw Dynameit, which is by Hedgefield Bonny Lad and out of Conwy Twts, was bought by Heather Hourston, Skelbister, Orphir, Orkney.
In the female section a top price of 1,050gn was achieved when a January-born ewe lamb from the Bessiebell flock went under the hammer.
Consigned by Mrs S Smyth, of Co Tyrone, Northern Ireland, Bessiebell Delta Dawn is by Gillhall Amarok and out of a Largyvale dam. She sold to Hoscote Estate, Roberton, Hawick, Roxburghshire.
Hoscote Estate also paid 1,000gn for a December-2015 born ewe lamb from Messrs McLaren and Baird’s Greystone flock in Dunblane; and 900gn twice for January-born ewe lambs from Hannah Sloan’s Top Notch flock in Dumfries.
Other leading prices in the female section included 800gn for a January-born ewe lamb from Mrs Owlen Hughes-Owen’s Cynefin flock in Conwy, Wales.
The Conic Buddy daughter, out of a Cynefin dam, sold to JB Wilkie, Braigiewell, Echt, Skene, Aberdeenshire.
Averages: two aged ewes £341.25; 51 shearling gimmers £374.91; 69 ewe lambs £400.52; one aged ram £1,155; 13 shearling rams £438.58; 35 ram lambs £462.
