An Easter Ross firm is planning to increase its workforce after winning a four-year waste management and recycling contract with NHS Highland.
Alness-based Northern Recycling Solutions (NRS) say they are looking to take on four more staff after securing the “high six-figure” deal.
The contract will see the family-run company provide waste management and recycling services to NHS premises throughout the Highlands. The firm will also deliver training to NHS staff.
NRS was founded 10 years ago by managing director Ewan Calder and his sister Katie Mount, the company’s commercial director. The company has since secured a number of significant public and private sector contracts in the Highlands and other parts of Scotland.
Yesterday Mr Calder, said: “We are delighted to have won this prestigious contract.
“This is a fantastic reflection on our team and their commitment to high-quality customer service.
“We have invested significantly in plant and equipment and in our fleet, it is rewarding to see our hard work and investment being recognised.”
The company currently employs 25 people, working on contracts in the Highlands, Aberdeen and Dundee.
Mrs Mount said: “We have already employed five more staff in the last 12 months and will be looking to take on a further four in the coming months.”
A year after its launch NRS was contracted by development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to provide waste management services for its network of offices and facilities throughout the region. In 2013 it was awarded a confidential waste contract by Highland Council. The company’s private sector clients include drinks giant Diageo.
In 2012 NRS opened a purpose-built recycling facility in Alness, equipped to handle sorting, baling and storing of recyclable materials, wheelie bin and skip collection and processing services and high-security confidential shredding. It also provides waste electrical and electronic equipment, food waste and hazardous waste services.
Commenting on the new contract, NHS Highland environmental and sustainability manager, John Burnside, said: “We are delighted to be working with Northern Recycling Services.
“We have worked with them previously and look forward to continuing and developing that working relationship which will include waste management awareness raising for NHS Highland staff.”
