Developing the Young Workforce (DYW) Inverness and Central Highland has appointed Cairngorm Group director Chris Dowling as chair of its regional board.
Mr Dowling will work with the DYW team and board to deliver the three-year programme currently being led by Inverness Chamber of Commerce.
A Scottish Government initiative launched earlier this year, DYW aims to reduce youth unemployment by building links between pupils, parents, schools and employers.
Mr Dowling said: “As both an employer and a parent with children fast approaching secondary school, developing the young work force has become a bit of a passion for me. I believe we require a holistic approach where we help pupils find meaning and purpose as opposed to just a job.
“I also believe we need to prepare them for every aspect of life after leaving school. As an employer and a parent, I know that life skills such as managing finances and paying bills are just as important and that helping young people find meaningful employment is only part of the challenge.”
Andy Maxtone, programme manager of DYW Inverness and Central Highland, said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Chris to the DYW Inverness and Central Highland regional board given his excellent background in working with and supporting young people at Cairngorm Group.
“The programme has got off to a strong start over the past few months, which have focused on building its profile amongst local employers and school groups.”
