An Aberdeen flooring firm believes it has one of the largest ratios of apprentices to staff of any company across Scotland.
General and Technical Flooring Services (G&T) said it has enjoyed a record year of activity and revenues in 2016 and that its emphasis on training is good for business.
There are five apprentices employed from an overall fitting team of 16 specialists, the firm which is based on Mugiemoss Road said.
John Morrison, who has been managing director of the firm since 2014, said: “We think we have one of the largest ratio of apprentices in any company across Scotland. Importantly, this is not a box-ticking exercise, it’s because we think it’s good for business. It’s fantastic that we’ve more than doubled revenues over the last couple of years, but it’s also really pleasing when our apprentices like, Liam Archibald, win awards such as Apprentice of the Year at Glasgow Met College.”
G&T, which is part of the wider Space Solutions group of companies, has recently worked with Aberdeen City Council, Police Scotland and Morrison Construction. Its 2016 contracts included the fit out of PWC’s new offices at the Capitol Building in Aberdeen, the refurbishment of Aker’s Kildrummy building and an entrance upgrade at Aberdeen’s Children’s Hospital.
Founded over 20 years ago, the firm opened a new office in Livingston twelve months ago. Led by Tommy Gaunt, who has over 30 years industry experience, G&T has picked up contracts with Amazon, Standard Life and the SSE Hydro venue.
The company said it posted revenues of £2.8million in the year to 30th June 2016.
