One of Scotland’s largest independent plant hire businesses is planning to open a new depot in Nairn as part of a continuing expansion drive.
The development would take the number of Jarvie Plant bases in Scotland to nine, following the opening of purpose-built depots in Aberdeen and Dundee last year.
Ian Hutchison, Jarvie’s sales director, said, with some significant rail and road infrastructure projects anticipated, he was “optimistic” about the prospects of operating in the north of Scotland, despite the oil and gas downturn.
He added: “We are looking to build on our already strong foundations in Scotland’s north-east and further invest in a full compliment of depot staff covering operation and sales.”
The Grangemouth-based firm will also launch in Manchester in the coming months in its first move into England.
Mr Hutchison said: “Manchester is a really exciting prospect as it opens up a huge geographical area and a wealth of opportunities.”
Founded in 1960 by John Jarvie, the company currently employs around 150 people.
