An Aberdeen businesswoman is taking her fledgling enterprise on the road on the back of strong demand for her toasted sandwiches.
Mechelle Clark opened her shop, Melt, in Holburn Street last March after being made redundant from the oil and gas industry a second time.
The 34-year-old has never looked back – the shop has turned a profit every month and earned thousands of loyal online followers – and is now making plans for expansion.
She aims to take her new “Meltmobile” mobile snack shop to events including weddings, festivals and major food shows and exhibitions such as the Taste of Grampian, while a second actual store is in the pipeline for next year.
Ms Clark said: “I’m really happy to be taking Melt to the next stage in its development.
“The last 18 months have been challenging for Aberdeen, but there are still lots of exciting things happening and a buzz about the city.
“After what happened to me I was inspired to follow my passion for food and cooking and make a career out of it.
“Hopefully, there are people in a similar position who hear my story and are also compelled to look to their other talents, or in unexpected places, to fulfil their ambitions.”
She added: “Working together with other organisations is crucial. I started the business thanks to the Start Up Loans Company, which provided me with the funding I needed, and I’ve found that other businesses have been happy to help and offer advice. It’s all about making connections.”
