Sustainable growth is needed to alleviate pressure on tourist hot spots such as Skye, according to a national travel boss.
The growing number of tourists travelling to the island last summer put pressure on infrastructure such as accommodation, car parking and popular attractions.
The issues even sparked an online petition calling for Skye to be brought into the 21st century for tourists.
VisitScotland chief executive Malcolm Roughead met with small businesses, including representatives from Skye, to discuss issues this week.
He said: “To some extent it’s quite a nice problem to have.
“One of the issues there is about seasonality so if we can stretch the season and get people coming in outwith the main season then that will help as well.
“Ultimately it’s all about sustainable growth. It can’t be about putting undue pressure on public infrastructure.”
Mr Roughead added: “”If you look at the North Coast 500 there’s already a group looking at alleviating potential problems but there’s also opportunities there.
“There’s a huge amount of business opportunities.
“So there’s challenges and opportunities right across the piece and I always call it a coalition of the willing.
“You’ve got to the people around the table working together.
