Firms from the north and north-east are among 16 Scottish companies showcasing their products at the Speciality and Fine Food fair, which opens in London tomorrow.

Taking place during Scottish Food and Drink Fortnight, which starts today, the three-day event at the Olympia Exhibition Centre is the UK’s premier trade show for high provenance, premium and artisan producers.

Among the companies in the Scotland Food and Drink organisation’s pavilion at the fair will be shortbread-maker Walkers, of Aberlour, and Aberdeen-based businesses Cocoa Ooze, Equi’s Ice Cream and Succulento. They will be joined by Stag Bakeries of Stornoway, Orkney Creamery, Isle of Skye Sea Salt and Great Glen Charcuterie, which is based at Spean Bridge.

Orkney Creamery production director Graham Bichan said: “We look forward to showcasing our products to a quality audience of buyers at the show once again.

“We continue to develop by being innovative and we have recently undergone a rebrand, so this is the perfect time and place to show our products. It’s great to be able to engage face to face with key decision-makers and to be part of an established and highly-regarded industry event, and we hope to generate more new business at Olympia.”

Members of the Highland contingent have received support from development agency Highlands and Islands Enterprise (HIE) to attend the event.Elaine Jamieson, head of food and drink at HIE, said: “The fair offers ambitious food and drink businesses a fantastic opportunity to showcase their products to trade buyers not just from the UK but also several international markets. It gives them exposure to different sales channels while meeting new, enthusiastic but discerning buyers, suppliers and visitors.
